Reporting Scammers...?
Okay, so this real piece of work tried to trick me by passing 40 gold as 40k to get his greedy hands on my golden shield but I didn't fall for it. The thing is, is this a reportable offense, and if so, where do I report it to?
I have a screenshot with the gold value and my shield just in case. |

I don't think Anet cares unless real money is involved.

It's what powertraders do buy items at low prices and the sell for a profit. It isn't a scam, just a bad trade. Quote:
As far as I know you gotta have evidence that he agreed to the 40k price, and knowingly (with evidence) tried to pass the 40g off as 40k. Otherwise its just a problem with communication. And Anet won't do diddley. My suggestion is don't bother. Nothing will come of it. Last edited by Roshi_ikkyu; May 26, 2007 at 12:57 PM // 12:57.. |

Unfortunately, that is not a reportable offense. Even if he agreed to pay 40k instead of 40g, he could always just say that offering 40g was a mistake. Your word against his.
Also, not a scam to buy commendations for 50g each. People are doing it for the drunkard title, NOT to make a profit (just to make less of a loss). Same with somebody trying to tell me selling troll tusks for 18g each instead of the normally agreed 20g each meant I was "scammed." If there is an advertised price and somebody agrees to it, then its NOT a scam. |

If you report the incident, ArenaNet will just send you the standard responses. But, as far as I know, if enough reports of attempted and completed scams build up, the scammer will start receiving escalating bans.
This does come under the first item in the Rules of Conduct - "While playing Guild Wars, you must respect the rights of others and their rights to play and enjoy the game. To this end, you may not defraud, harass, threaten, or cause distress and/or unwanted attention to other players." ArenaNet will never announce a punishment or inform a scam victim of what was done to the scammer. Reporting can help in the long term.
